This course is accredited as Model Curriculum of Using English as Medium of Instruction for International Students in Shanghai Colleges and Universities by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission

Plants provide oxygen, food, fuel and fibre and take carbon dioxide from human beings, which are essential to the balance of nature. This course is for the beginning biology students, aiming to equip them with the fundamental knowledge of plant biology and physiology.

We will mainly focus on: 1) plant cells and tissues; 2) vegetative organs; 3) water physiology of plants; 4) mineral nutrition; 5) photosynthesis; and 6) higher plants and algae. On completion of the course, students are expected to understand and apply relevant scientific principles, and more importantly, be able to employ scientific methodologies (e.g. hypothesis creation, experimentation and data analysis) in the area of plant biology.
